Brooks is a vibrant multicultural community situated in the heart of Southern Alberta. Positioned along the Transcanada Highway, Brooks is one of the fastest growing communities in Canada and recently obtained city status effective September, 2005. Described as "beautiful and bountiful" by local residents, the town hosts a variety of commercial and recreational interests. The city's main industry is Lakeside Packers, a large beef processing and packing facility that provides employment for many town residents. Brooks also supports several oil and gas companies, a large number of community-based businesses and services, and, thanks to a large irrigation network, an active farming and ranching community. Local attractions include the world renowned Dinosaur Provincial Park, a UNESCO world heritage site; the Brooks Aqueduct National/Provincial Historic Site; Kinbrook Island Provincial Park and Lake Newell; Duke of Sutherland Water-Park; Lakeside Leisure Centre; Brooks Crop-Diversification Centre South, the Pheasant Hatchery; several playgrounds and parks; two golf courses, a movie theatre, and various restaurants and shops. Ideally situated between three larger centres: Medicine Hat, Calgary, and Lethbridge, Brooks residents also have access to a wide variety of amenities provided by these centres.
