Are you interested in getting your own Brooks Public Library card? Library cards can be purchased by visiting the Brooks Public Library in-person. Please note that identification with a current address is required. Library cards are available for both individual members and families. Payment for cards can be made either with cash or personal cheque. Unfortunately, the library cannot accomodate Interac or credit card payments at this time. Memberships for the residents of Brooks and Divisions 1-10 of the County of Newell are $15.00 per year for an individual, and $20.00 per year for a family, effective February 3, 2009. Memberships for those who are not part of the Shortgrass Library System are $60.00 per year for an individual, and $80.00 per year for a family. Are you looking for the perfect gift for an avid reader? Library memberships can also be purchased for friends and family members through Brooks Public Library gift certificates. The lucky recipient would recieve a gift certificate for an individual membership, a family membership, or a non-resident membership. They are available at the Brooks Public Library from any staff member. For more information please feel free to call 362-2947 or ask at the library's information desk. Library materials, with some exceptions, are loaned for a three week period. Typically, each item can be renewed up to two times for a maximum of six additional weeks. Videos are loaned for a one week period and may be renewed only once. Vacation loans are available if requested in advance. A fine of $0.25 per item per day will be assessed on all overdue adult and young adult materials to a maximum of $5.00 per item. A fine of $0.10 per item per day will be assessed on all overdue children's materials to a maximum of $2.00 per item. A processing fee of $3.50 will be charged on any lost or damaged item. Holds and renewals can be placed either in-person at the library, by telephone, or over the Internet using the Online Catalogue (more information on the Online Catalogue is available below). All members of the Shortgrass Library System, including Brooks Public Library, can search for materials from home using the online catalogue. The online catalogue also allows members to check their patron record to find out if they have any books out or overdue fines; place holds on materials; and renew materials. In order to use this catalogue, library members need to know their library barcode (the number on their library card) and their PIN number. If you do not have a PIN number or cannot remember it, please contact your library.
