Non-Resident Fee Increase

Effective April 1, 2003, the Board of Trustees of the Shortgrass Library System has raised the "non-resident fees" for library services from $45 to $60 per individual per year, and from $60 to $80 per family per year. The current fees had been in place since 1993.

Non-resident fees are charged to those who reside in municipalities who are not supporting members of the Shortgrass Library System. Shortgrass Library System was created in 1988 when most of the municipalities in this region came together in a partnership to provide enhanced library services to their residents. Some municipalities decided not to join.

The non-resident fee allows library patrons from non-member municipalities to borrow items from our member public libraries.

Also, residents of areas outside the Shortgrass region will need to pay the non-resident fee as well.

Some may come from a municipality that supports enhanced library services, and they can then use their TAL Card to borrow some items from our libraries. Click here for information on The Alberta Library Card (TAL Library Card)

Cypress County

Cypress County is now a member of Shortgrass (March 2005)

Newell Area

In the Newell County, Muncipal Divisions 1-10 are members of Shortgrass.

Residents outside of the Shortgrass Member divisions will be responsible to pay for the non-resident fees if they desire library services at one of the Shortgrass Libraries.
